What To Do Before Your Laser Tattoo Removal Session

Follow these steps in the 2 weeks and 24 hours leading up to your appointment:

01
Avoid Sun & Tanning
No sunbathing, tanning beds, or self-tanner on the treatment area for at least 2 weeks before your session. Tanned skin increases the risk of burns and pigment changes.
02
Shave the Area
Shave the tattoo area the day before or morning of your appointment. This focuses laser energy on the ink rather than surface hair.
03
Arrive with Clean Skin
Come with clean skin — no lotions, creams, perfumes, or makeup on or near the tattoo. These can interfere with the laser and cause irritation.
04
Wear Loose Clothing
Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows easy access to the tattoo area without rubbing the skin afterward.
05
Stay Hydrated
Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your session. Well-hydrated skin responds better to laser treatment and heals faster.

What To Avoid Before Treatment

⚠️ Do NOT do any of the following before your laser tattoo removal session:

In the 2 Weeks Before

  • ✦ Sunbathing or tanning beds
  • ✦ Self-tanner or spray tans on the area
  • ✦ Waxing or threading near the tattoo
  • ✦ Chemical peels or skin treatments on the area
  • ✦ Retinol or AHA/BHA products near the tattoo

Day of Your Appointment

  • ✦ Apply lotion, oil, or perfume to the area
  • ✦ Take blood thinners (ibuprofen, aspirin) — use acetaminophen if needed
  • ✦ Drink alcohol the night before
  • ✦ Apply numbing cream without technician guidance
  • ✦ Smoke immediately before (reduces immune response)

Medical Conditions to Disclose

Please inform your iBeauty technician before your session if any of the following apply to you. Some conditions require additional precautions or may temporarily contraindicate treatment:

Active Skin Infections
We cannot treat over active infection, open wounds, cold sores, or broken skin. Reschedule until fully healed.
Recent Tan or Sunburn
Tanned or sunburned skin significantly increases the risk of burns. We may need to reschedule if the area is too dark or irritated.
Pregnancy or Breastfeeding
Laser tattoo removal is not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. We will reschedule once it is safe to treat.
Photosensitizing Medications
Certain antibiotics, acne medications (like Accutane), and other drugs increase photosensitivity. Always disclose your current medications.
History of Keloids
If you have a history of keloid scarring, let us know. We will adjust settings or recommend a test patch before proceeding with a full session.
Immune System Conditions
Since your immune system clears the fragmented ink, conditions that affect immune function may slow results. Please disclose any relevant conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions — Pre-Care

Can I eat before laser tattoo removal?

Yes — eat normally before your appointment. There are no fasting requirements. Staying well-fed and hydrated helps minimize any discomfort during treatment.

Should I apply numbing cream before my session?

Do not apply numbing cream without specific guidance from your technician. If you want numbing cream, let us know when you book and we will advise you on which product to use and how to apply it correctly.

How close to my appointment should I shave?

Shave the day before or the morning of your appointment. Avoid shaving too far in advance as some stubble can grow back, and avoid shaving immediately before the session to reduce skin irritation.

What if I have a fresh tan?

We will need to reschedule your appointment. Tanned skin absorbs more laser energy, which increases the risk of burns and pigment changes. Please avoid sun exposure for at least 2 weeks before each session.

Can I work out before my laser appointment?

Avoid strenuous exercise on the day of your appointment. Exercise raises body temperature and can cause skin flushing, which may affect treatment. Light activity is fine.
