Pre-Care Checklist — What To Do Before Your Session

01
Avoid Sun & Tanning
No sun exposure, tanning beds, or self-tanner on the treatment area for at least 1 week before your appointment. Sunburned or tanned skin cannot be treated.
02
Stop Retinol & Acids
Discontinue Retin-A, retinols, AHAs, BHAs, and vitamin C serums on and around the treatment area for at least 2 weeks before your session. These thin the skin and affect pigment retention.
03
No Botox or Fillers
Avoid Botox or filler injections near the treatment area for at least 3 weeks before your appointment. Wait until the product has fully settled.
04
No Blood Thinners
Avoid alcohol, ibuprofen, aspirin, fish oil, and vitamin E for 48 hours before your session — these increase bleeding and can cause poor pigment retention.
05
No Waxing or Threading
Do not wax, thread, or tweeze the brow area for 1 week before your microblading or brow appointment. Arrive with your natural brows intact so we can shape them properly.
06
No Chemical Peels
Avoid chemical peels, microdermabrasion, or laser treatments near the area for at least 4 weeks prior to your appointment.

What To Avoid Before Your Appointment

⚠️ Failure to follow these guidelines may result in rescheduling your appointment or poor pigment retention.

4 Weeks Before

  • ✦ Chemical peels or laser treatments near the area
  • ✦ Microdermabrasion or microneedling
  • ✦ Accutane or prescription retinoids (consult your doctor)

2 Weeks Before

  • ✦ Retinol, Retin-A, AHA, BHA products on the area
  • ✦ Vitamin C serums near the brows or lips
  • ✦ Tanning beds or prolonged sun exposure

48 Hours Before

  • ✦ Alcohol consumption
  • ✦ Ibuprofen, aspirin, or blood thinners
  • ✦ Fish oil or vitamin E supplements
  • ✦ Caffeine on the day of your appointment

Day-of Appointment Tips

Arrive with a Clean Face
Come with clean skin — no makeup, creams, or oils on the treatment area. For brow appointments, arrive with your eyebrows in their natural state.
Eat Before Your Appointment
Have a full meal before coming in. Low blood sugar can make you more sensitive to discomfort and affect the overall experience.
Avoid Caffeine
Skip coffee and other caffeine the morning of your appointment. Caffeine can increase skin sensitivity and may cause more bleeding or swelling.
Bring Reference Photos
If you have brow shape, lip color, or liner style references you love, bring photos to your consultation. This helps your technician understand your vision.
Dress Comfortably
Wear comfortable clothing. For brow or forehead treatments, wear a top that does not pull over your head — a button-up or zip-up is ideal.
Plan for Downtime
Brows and lips will look darker and bolder immediately after the session — this is normal. Plan accordingly and avoid important events for the first 5–7 days of healing.

Frequently Asked Questions — Pre-Care

Can I get semi-permanent makeup if I'm pregnant?

No — semi-permanent makeup procedures are not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Please wait until after you have finished breastfeeding and consult your doctor if you have any concerns.

Can I wear makeup to my appointment?

You may wear makeup to your appointment, but you will need to remove it before the procedure begins. For brow appointments, arrive without any brow products so we can assess your natural brow shape accurately.

What if I am on blood thinners for a medical reason?

If you are on prescribed blood thinners, consult your doctor before scheduling. Do not stop prescribed medications without medical advice. Let us know during your consultation so we can assess whether treatment is appropriate for you.

How long before my appointment should I stop using retinol?

Stop using retinol, Retin-A, and any prescription retinoids at least 2 weeks before your appointment. These products thin the skin and significantly reduce pigment retention, which affects how well your results hold.

Will my brows be numb during the procedure?

Yes — we apply a topical numbing cream before and during the procedure to minimize discomfort. Most clients find the process very tolerable. Sensitivity varies by individual and by time of month.
